4 day Outdoor First Aid at Work Course

Summary

This course is specifically designed for people who work in the outdoors and will prepare them for dealing with single and multiple casualties within their professional environments where help can be delayed. The programme is very practical with several realistic exercises to develop your new skills, the course is assessed and all successful participants will be awarded the Forestry First Aid certificate and a First Aid at Work certificate.

The course takes place over five days at our stunning wilderness training venue and includes accommodation and food. All training is carried out by qualified instructors who are all experienced and operational medics.

Syllabus

The training programme is carefully structured to ensure maximum retention, individual confidence and is very much a ‘hands on’ system - we make a lot of effort to ensure that you are training in an environment that reflects your working areas. You will also experience first aid in cold, wet conditions and in the dark.

Wherever possible you will be taught to improvise first aid equipment, making the most of the work kit that you have on an average working day.

Day One -           Incident Management, Unconscious Casualty, Primary and Secondary Survey, Spine Casualties,
Dealing with casualty position and PPE, Breathing issues and CPR.

                         Night Exercise.

Day Two -           Review and Daily table top exercise, Circulation issues: Bleeding, Wounds, Crush Syndrome
and Suspension Trauma, Secondary Survey in depth, Shock, Head Injuries, Close Inspection of the Spine.
                         Monitoring and Recording the Casualty.

                         Exercise.

Burns, Hot and Cold Illness, Common Illness, Eye Injuries, Poisons.

                        Exercise.

Day Four -          Review and Daily table top exercise, Student Topics, First Aid Kits, Evacuation: When and Where,
Emergency carries and Stretchers, Helicopter Awareness, After an Incident.

                        Final Exercise.

                        Review, Assessments, Feedback and Dispersal.

The course will be challenging but no previous first aid training is necessary as our instructors will methodically take you through casualty assessment, treatment and handling. All of our training takes place in a relaxed, fun environment.

Accommodation and Equipment

The course takes place in a basic but comfortable wilderness training venue in Mid Wales, all food and  refreshments are provided - the food is excellent and we can cater for dietary requirements. You will require a sleeping bag, outdoor clothing and footwear and a headtorch - some basic note taking stationary is also recommended.

When booking a place on the course you will receive Joining Instructions that will contain further details regarding the venue, including easy to follow directions.
