Domestic Users: Requires no prior experience. Perfect for chopping firewood or starting chainsaw sculpture.  Learn how to use a chainsaw safely.  (Not tree felling)

Professional Users: Foundation course everyone must do. 

Full preparation for CS30 assessment. 

Stand-alone qualification for ground workers, hedgers and carvers.

Lantra 4 day - Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross-cutting and Felling Trees up to 8" in Diameter

Integrated Training and Assessment (ITA) Course (valid for 5 years)

Domestic: Learn the basics of felling small trees safely.  Ideal for gardeners.

Professional: Stand-alone qualification for coppice-workers, garden contractors and hedgers who only need to fell small trees and don't wish to go through the NPTC process.  8" tree diameter limit. 
(Not recommended in preparation for CS30/CS31 - see 5 day course).

Lantra 5 day - Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross-cutting and Felling Trees up to 15" in Diameter

Professional: This course combines the 2 day maintenance course with 3 days of felling instruction.

Full preparation for CS30 and CS31 assessments.  These are the essential core qualifications to allow you to work for the Forestry Commission, and to allow you to take the more advanced chainsaw units.

Everyone in professional tree work has to start here.

Training Only Course (Certificate of Attendance only.  Must be followed by an NPTC assessment).



NPTC Assessments take one extra day and cost approx £250 per candidate (assessment fees vary slightly with different Assessment Centres)

These are the basic chainsaw courses. Environment Skills Training delivers more advanced chainsaw training on application.

The next levels are:

 

Felling Medium trees (15" to 30" diameter), includes use of felling wedges and winches

 

Felling Individual Windblown trees

 

Felling Multiple Windblown trees

 

Pruning using a Pole Saw

 

Tree climbing and aerial rescue using ropes (basic tree-surgery unit)

 

Use of chainsaw in a tree (basic tree-surgery unit)
